One more step to normalcy was hosting this months weavers group and it was such a beautiful day, made more so by sharing it with such talented and inspirational women.  Another plus was that this is the cleanest my house has been since before the pandemic.  That says a lot about my housekeeping priorities.

These gradual steps in returning to a pre-covid life are good but come with some trepidation also.  I totally understand the people who are reluctant to leave their masks home. It makes me realize how deeply  affected I ( and probably most people) were by the isolation from family and friends, disturbing images of illness, and constant uncertainty of what seemed endless.  It is hard to readjust to being comfortable in groups and it feels strange to leave behind the safely of wearing masks.  I really want these changes and want to trust that they will stay but I think that without really being aware of it this disease has affected us in ways that will take a long time to heal whether we got sick from the virus or not.  And my thoughts go out to those that have suffered from this illness and unfortunately the many yet to come.

On a slightly cheerier note I am finally getting some things off the loom.  Good thing because the Driftless Area Art Festival will be here before I know it and I have maybe 4 scarves in my inventory.  So it will be a solid couple of months of weaving for me before the fair September 18-19.

I love the hand dyed tencel warp that made up part of my Star Crossed deflected double weave scarves.  It was fun changing the colors as I wove and seeing how the colors played together.  I think Anne Marie wore the one I had just taken off the loom, for  most of our meeting and she looked great in it.  These ones are going to be hard to part with.

watermelon lemonade was the perfect summertime drink/ Barbs turkish spindle and Janets placemats and table runner

friends

Olga showed us her latest creative sewing project with a silk shirt that she modified

I used 2 warps for these scarves. one which I hand dyed and used on the ends and the other in blues and rust tencel in the middle of the scarf. Combining them at the back of the loom made me slightly crazy but out of chaos came order, finally. There are always many steps before you get to the actually weaving part.

This is my mini scarf pile of 3 scarves and one, maybe a cowl to be. Scarf piles makes me very happy and I can spend a lot of time photographing them. This pile needs to get lots taller before the Driftless Area Art Fair in September. But it is a good start.

Some of Barb’s lovely handspun

This storm a few days after our meeting almost flooded the valley, the 2 side gullies were both running. It went over our bridge and Maisie accidentally went for a swim in a whirlpool, not being able to see where the bridge stopped. At least I didn’t have to jump in and save her and she even managed to hang on to her frisbee.
