I’ve felt for a long time the need to express artistically the chaos that Covid-19 has brought to the world. The opportunity presented itself when VIVA Gallery; that I am a member of choose the theme “A Portrait of the Times”  for our January show.
I had a few firsts in creating this piece in that I taught myself enameling and made my first tube setting for the tourmaline gem.
Bead Leno scarves
These scarves are created by using beads in the warp that makes it possible to have threads cross and create curves that are otherwise impossible. It makes for very slow set up and weaving, taking slow cloth to a whole new level. Not to be repeated often in my weaving list of wanna dos.
Scarves woven for the Driftless Area Art Festival
there is nothing better than getting a picture of your handwovens stacked in a pile whether it is in preparation for our local Driftless Area Art Festival held in September in Soldiers Grove, WI, or just because I like to see piles of handwovens.
Birch Bark Jewelry
Birch bark earrings and barrettes can be purchased at Viva Gallery in Viroqua
Deflected Doubleweave
Deflected doubleweave has two layers of weaving that interchange throughout the weaving. These scarves and cowls are woven with wool and alpaca yarns.
White collapse weave shawl
The warp contains white organic cotton with some novelty yarns and is woven with a Japanese wool crepe yarn for the weft that “collapses” 30% when placed in water. This collapses the weave into a fabric that stretches and has life.
silver and dichroic glass pendant
This pendant has a dichroic glass “jewel” that I formed in the kiln and the silver is crafted from Art Metal Clay. A silver clay like material that you can mold like clay but when heated in a kiln everything but the silver burns off.
red lampworked heart
Just before valentines day every year, I get inspired to work up more lampworked glass hearts. A great sweetheart gift that doesn’t shrivel up and die in a couple of days. Just sayin…
