Well, getting down to the wire in getting ready for the Driftless Art Fair, this weekend; I decided to put a linen warp on the little Glimakra for a linen transparency. I've been dying to use my silk and stainless steel yarn from Habu and what better time. Never done a fine gauzey weave or [...]

Sheep and Wool Festival, originally uploaded by kindred threads Well let me tell you it's a big scary fiber world out there. I'm glad to be home from the fair; to my family and relatively sane fiber friends. I made the mistake of standing between 2 women in a bidding war at the silent auction. [...]

In my new, never ending goal of achieving computer mastery, I found this mosaic maker thingy at my flicker site. Another night playing computer geek when I could have been weaving. The shawl on the bottom is actually an older project knitted with my handspun yarns from the Charlottes Web pattern. The green/ blue (on the [...]

A good day to dye

By |2016-10-25T16:52:35+00:00August 6th, 2008|Uncategorized|1 Comment

I remember being very intimidated by dyeing a few years ago; mostly because reading Deb Menzs' book Color in Spinning made everything look so scientific and precise. After taking a class at Sievers, with Deb, and declaring in front of all, my fear of dyeing; I quickly found that splashing color on roving and spinning [...]

color inspiration

This color combination is calling out to me to be a scarf. Do you hear colors calling to you?My friend Nan, brought her scarf woven by Randall Darwall to visit me. This is some major inspiration. He plays with color in a way that makes it sing. My pictures do not do it justice... hopefully [...]

Carole’s Krokbragd

By |2016-10-25T16:52:35+00:00July 18th, 2008|Uncategorized|4 Comments

What a treat to see this rug coming off the loom. It is truly a beauty. This is where having a good fabric stash comes in handy; since this was done in fairly fine rags instead of the more traditional wool. It is a swedish weave using three shafts (in this case), called Krokbragd...hopefully spelled [...]

Great balls of ???

I'm not sure why this rag ball is so beautiful, but it certainly calls to me. Jan is taking apart a rag rug treasured in her family and made by a family friend. It will be a wonderful way to honor this womens work by prolonging its life with a new warp. Our 2nd Monday was [...]
